Pontresina The Secret Jewel

Sweet-smelling pine and larch forests surround the resort and spa town of Pontresina. It’s based at 1,820m in the highest side valley of the Upper Engadine. The long drawn-out village is a popular centre for sports and culture.

pontresina-logo Lofty peaks, 350km of excellently prepared pistes, about 60 lifts and over 35 mountain restaurants await you in the top snow sports region of Engadine, St. Moritz. Unique natural conditions, an amazing variety of slopes and stunning views from the highest peaks all contribute toward an unforgettable skiing experience.

Tranquil and Romantic Sunny and Sheltered

perfect snow in pontresina engaldine

Pontresina is nestled in the Bernina massif and is a tranquil place which is wildly romantic, sunny and sheltered from the wind. The health and beauty treatments on offer at the local hotels and the Bella Vita pool and spa are the perfect way to unwind after a hard day on the pistes.

Pontresina enjoys a south-west facing terrace just 7km from St. Moritz. The first hotels for guests were built as early as the 19th century. The resort has a great architectural blend of fine old Engadine houses with their typical decorated walls from the 17/18th centuries and the elegant hotels in Belle Époque style. A modern conference centre completes the village’s infrastructure.

The Village

Being linked to the area of St. Moritz this quaint village offers a massive ski area whilst still retaining the title of a charming farming village. The small streets are lined with little boutique shops, restaurants and bars. It is a lot quieter than the larger resorts close-by but still manages to deliver a great friendly feeling. It is a long narrow resort and places are very easy to get to on foot.

Eating Out

Its proximity to Italy guarantees high-class food and wine. Obviously there is a pretty big Italian theme in the cuisine but keeping true to its Swiss routes you can find the usual Swiss mountain food of Raclettes and fondue. However, there are a few restaurants that offer dishes from further afield and all are reasonably priced.

3 Big Areas 3 Different Feels

The three main ski areas are separate but big enough to stand alone. There are regular buses that transport you between the areas and each one will offer you a distinctly different feel. Corviglia offers extensive, rolling, well-groomed pistes. Corvatsch offers the drama of the high peaks followed by big vertical descents, then there is the Diavolleza, giving huge runs across the glacier and steepest slopes.

The area can lay claim to 350km of ski pistes. It lies between 1,800m and 3,303m and offers guaranteed snow and some fantastic views, not to mention great weather. Some of this is due to over 260 snow cannons, meaning the lower slopes can keep up with higher glacier pistes. Modern, fast ski lifts mean minimal waiting times and more skiing time, you’ll need it to cover the Engadine. The area has somthing for everyone, carving paradises, free ride slopes, spacious nursery slopes and a glacier downhill run.

The Slopes

The Engadine has 18 blue runs, 16 red runs and 9 black runs.

The area has hosted the Olympic Winter Games twice and because of this offers a great variety of attractions. Toboggan riders plunge down the icy run which is one of the oldest natural ice bob runs in the world. The Fun Park, for snowboarders, features a permanent half-pipe.

For winter hikers there are 150km of winter walking trails and for cross-country skiers there is a track network of about 180km.

This ski pass covers all the lifts in the region. 350km!
