Champéry Gateway to the Portes du Soleil

Champéry - Portes du Soleil Located in the huge skiing area of the Portes du Soleil is the resort of
Champéry. This resort still preserves the usual Swiss beauty and charm.
Renowned for exhilarating winter sports holidays in one of
Switzerland’s best-kept secrets, Champéry is a pretty village with the
traditional old-fashioned feel on its main street.

chamery-logo Situated at 1,050m in the Chablais region at the foot of the Dents-du-Midi
and the Dents Blanches, Champéry is one of Switzerland’s oldest tourist
destinations. Along the village streets are the traditional chalets with their
carved wooden balconies and typical roofs with snow stops. Some of these great
Stadels are now charming little shops, bars and restaurants. Based in the
village is one of Switzerland’s few surviving bell-foundries and still remains
in production.

A Original Village Wooden Chalets

In 1969, Champéry became one of the founding villages of the Portes du
Soleil ski area and resort. The main street features beautifully kept wooden chalets with tantalizing storefronts and restaurants. The village is still compact and quaint enough to keep everything close enough to walk around. This is a must do, as there is so much to take in. Overlooking Champéry are the 7 spectacular peaks of Les Dents du Midi which, some say, rival the Matterhorn and the Eiger for natural beauty.

Eating Out

In recent years, an influx of young and dynamic chefs have made
Champéry’s restaurant scene one of the best kept culinary secrets of the Alps. This however, does not mean light, bright and minimalistic restaurants. The true locals of Champéry managed to keep a hold of the real charm and this has been passed down into its restaurants and bars. You can find traditional food on the high street, meats still cooked on the open grills, classic Swiss fondue and Raclettes, all served up in quaint restaurants made from wood and stone.

Mountain Restaurants

This theme and look is reiterated in the on-piste restaurants throughout Les Portes du Soleil which for years have been serving discerning guests and some of the best food critics alike. A specially created Pass Gourmet guidebook highlights the best local specialities.

The Swiss Wall 50 degrees

Cable-cars and chair-lifts lead out from Champéry into the skiing area of the Portes du Soleil. This is one of the world’s largest continuous ski areas. Within it, there are 14 different areas for skiers and snowboarders – 6 in Switzerland and 8 in France – with 209 lifts and 650km of prepared slopes available to them. There is also a snow park to meet the needs of freestylers. Not only that, but the adventurous can also try their hand at ice-climbing,
snow-shoe walking, paragliding, or prove themselves on skiing tours or sledging runs. The village also has an indoor ice rink and a curling hall which are open all year round.

The ski slope at Pas de Chavanette – often simply called Le Mur Suisse (the Swiss Wall) – is one of the steepest in the world. Although it is only a kilometre long, the descent covers a difference in altitude of nearly 400 metres, with gradients of up to 50 degrees.

This ski pass covers all the lifts in the Portes du Soleil
