Klosters is a renowned mountain resort. This is mainly down to the heir to the British throne, Prince Charles, who is a regular guest. The diverse range of activities on offer is well suited to families with children. Nestling in what has remained the rural part of the Graubünden, Klosters with its romantic village-like atmosphere stands in stark contrast to the nearby Alpine metropolis of Davos.
Thanks to the Vereina tunnel, even the Engadine has now become a direct neighbouring region. The trains and transport between the 2 resorts is included on with your lift pass and therefore makes travelling between the villages very easy and gives you the opportunity to experience both these amazing resorts.
The village of Klosters really allows you to immerse yourself in Swiss culture. It is the smaller village just before you get to Davos. It is a very alpine feeling village that offers quaint, picturesque views of the surroundings. The village dates back to the 13th century and has a reputation of being a health resort. It’s now obviously best known for being the high class resort where the Royals hang out. Don’t let this fool you however, as there are still plenty of chalets and hotels for the lesser royals. Like many other Swiss resorts it’s divided into 2 parts, Platz and Dorf. Platz is the livelier side of the village and is where most of the restaurants and shops are based.
In Davos-Klosters you will find some amazing restaurants. They offer and mirror the diverse nature of the international scene that is present. As with many Swiss resorts there are the usual small fine restaurants, serving typical Graubünden specialities, but with over 140 restaurants around, the range extends to all corners of the world. They cater for the wide range of diverse people who visit the area for business conferences and and snow sports alike.
Klosters offers small but exceptional restaurants, which always impress due to their unique character. There is always something happening in Davos Klosters at any time of the day. They complement each other in a fantastic way and you can enjoy the benefits of both in some of the most diverse night life in the Alps. Davos is known as the party town of the Alps, with the nature and size of the town, this is unsurprising. The nightlife in Davos can rival that of the major urban centres, offering everything from quiet exclusive wine bars all the way to large discotheques and a casino.
Davos-Klosters is a great winter sports area for skiing and snowboarding fans from all over the world. At altitudes between 1,124m and 2,844m there are around 58 ski lifts all giving you access to a huge area of 320km of slopes. The seven Davos-Klosters skiing areas of Parsenn, Gotschna, Jakobshorn, Pischa, Madrisa, Rinerhorn and Schatzalp/Strela have been brought together into one vast winter sports arena. For the hardcore skiers, the best areas are Parsenn and Weissfluhjoch which connect up with the neighbouring resort of Davos. The Jakobshorn, on the other hand, is the in place for snowboarders, as it boasts a well groomed half-pipe and a monster pipe. The Pischa area now boasts the largest freeride area in Europe.
The Gotschnabahn cable car takes you up into the Davos ski area. The smaller, sunny Madrisa ski region above Klosters is also great for beginner skiers.
Non-skiers can access the miles of winter walking paths, horse-drawn sled rides, 3 toboggan runs and snow-shoe trekking. There are also 75km of cross-country ski tracks, two artificial ice-skating rinks and Europe’s largest natural ice rink for people to skate or play curling on.
