Lenzerheide Twice the sun

Lenzerheide is a hidden gem in the Graubünden canton of Switzerland. This resort has a 155km ski area, extensive off-piste, and a picturesque village. The idyllic, park-like countryside of the high valley of Lenzerheide provides the perfect setting for experience-packed or relaxing holidays. In winter a varied ski region awaits winter sports enthusiasts on both sides of the valley.

lenzerheide-logo Formerly a mere transit location between Chur and Tiefencastel, Lenzerheide is located at an altitude of 1,500m in a high valley. It has been a popular winter resort for families and sports enthusiasts for some time now. The smaller holiday resorts of Parpan and Lantsch/Lenz are located in the same high valley.

Alpine Scenery Look for Relaxation

The resort offers great options for families and has been awarded the Families Welcome quality label. As a result of this, childcare services are excellent and a great number of hotels have adapted and made their doors open to families. The village itself is fairly compact and very bright due to the sun being able to reach both sides. This often means the village stays pleasant and warm to walk around and enjoy the glistening winter days where the deeply snow-covered landscape is nestled between white forests and frozen lakes.

The Village

The village is located on the edge of the Heidsee Lake and offers amazing lake views and alpine scenery. The main street is lined with shops, restaurants and hotels. The Dieschen lift is situated in the village centre allowing access to the Rothorn Gondola for easy morning commutes. There are also runs back into the village for the end of the day. This makes the village very attractive to those wanting ski in and ski out! There is a handy free bus that runs around the village, allowing those hotels and chalets not in the centre easy access to the lifts.

As it’s a relatively small and undeveloped village it still managed to hold all of its tradition, charm and character.

Eating Out

Restaurants are reasonably priced and with excellent food. They vary from traditional pizzas, to American, Mexican, Chinese – in fact cuisine from every country in the world – and of course the Swiss specialities. All food is of a very high quality. Aprés-ski ranges from informal cafes to lively bars with music and rock bands. There are bars and restaurants for every taste, and night clubs with dancing until dawn, if you have the energy! Night clubs are generally free entry and they offer a number of theme nights as well.

Freeride! Young at Heart

The ski area is split into the East and West sides. They both offer a huge range of pistes for all abilities. The 2 mountains are linked either by a ski trail which runs under the main road, linking up the Papan and Heimberg ski lifts or the courtesy bus loop. The main areas rise up from both sides of Lenzerheide, where the west side up to Piz Scalottas at 2,323m has the benefit of the morning sun whilst the east slopes up to 2,865m at the Rothorn have the afternoon.

There are around 40 modern lifts that can get you around the area and one third of the pistes have snow cannons meaning that the resort has a healthy season. The lower pistes below the mid-stations are wide runs through the trees and give you that very alpine feeling and off piste and freeride areas along with an impressive range of cross country skiing compliment this region.

The Slopes

In total there are over 155km of pistes, including a 3.5km illuminated run. Beginner slopes make up 30% of the runs, with 50% at intermediate level and 20% advanced.

Freeride is a huge part of Lenzerheide. The Rothorn is the classic freeride mountain. The western side is where the advanced and pro skiers can find the fresh powder. There are some awesome gullies with snow-covered slopes everywhere on the Rothorn. Far less well known than the Rothorn is the slightly lower Schwarzhorn. After a short climb to the peak you’ll enjoy a fantastic view of the Chur Rhine Valley. On the northern slope you ski through often untouched powder snow down to the Chötzenberg, then a little further along the piste you can immediately enjoy the Weisshorn. There is a unique run for experienced freeriders that starts at the Rothorn and continues on the northern side of the Arosa Rothorn, past a few lakes to Arosa and then onto Tschiertschen and up to Gürgaletsch. From there it’s 900 metres down to Parpan.

This ski pass covers all the lifts in the Lenzerheide & Arosa region – 255km of pistes.
